In the world: the unbeatable Google Chrome

Launched in 2008 in a market largely dominated by Internet Explorer, Google Chrome only needed a few years to turn the tables. Sold as “safe, fast and customizable”, the Mountain View company’s web browser managed, upon its release, to convince many users. Enough, in any case, to successively surpass Safari, Mozilla Firefox, then Internet Explorer. In June 2012, four years after the beta version was released, Google Chrome was already the most used browser in the world.

Twelve years later, Google Chrome has largely consolidated its lead, even literally crushed the competition. According to data published by StatCounter, the browser, owned by Google, holds, in June 2024, more than 65% market share across all media. Based on Chromium, which also powers other competing solutions like Brave or Opera, Google Chrome is ahead of Safari (18.4%) and Microsoft Edge (5%), which is mainly used on desktop. Mozilla Firefox, which has continued to decline for several years, only holds a 2.6% market share globally.
