Threads Celebrates First Birthday with 175 Million Monthly Active Users

Meta’s social network Threads is celebrating its first birthday with 175 million monthly active users. To mark the occasion, the app is offering new custom icons available through July 12.

ThreadsTwitter’s rival from Meta’s Instagram, was launched on July 5, 2023. In one year, this growing social network now has 175 million active users monthly. This news was announced by Mark Zuckerberg himself on Threads.

At the beginning, Threads experienced meteoric growth, reaching 100 million users just five days after its launch. Growth then leveled off, but remains steady: 130 million users in February and 150 million in April.

The Threads team is quietly celebrating the 175 million milestone with new custom icons. The mobile app now offers five icons in addition to the default one. New icons will be added every day until July 12. Users can find them in the “Your Profile” tab by tapping on the birthday cake icon. These icons are available for a limited time.

The Threads network is interconnecting with the rest of the Meta empire. As of June 25, users from over 100 countries can share their posts with the entire fediverse.

Instagram says that 63% of posts on Threads are text-only. However, one in four posts contains at least one photo. In addition to text and photos, voice notes are becoming more common, although younger generations are using them more than older ones.
